Hollywood Shorts - Fall/Winter Screenings

HOLLYWOOD SHORTS is a monthly short film showcase hosted at CINESPACE in the heart of HOLLYWOOD. The festival style screenings feature the best international shorts and animation, and includes a comprehensive Q&A panel with the filmmakers and key members of their production and creative teams.

Each screening opens with Animation, and there is one month set aside each year where HOLLYWOOD SHORTS presents its popular SPOTLIGHT ON ANIMATION.

The Sacramento Film and Music Festival

The Sacramento Film and Music Festival showcases more than 140 films along with 22 live music performances. Screenings will be both competition and non-competition, along with special screenings for locally produced material. For submission purposes, festival programmers will consider films submitted before completion (i.e., rough cuts, Avid outputs, temporary sound mixes, etc.). However, programmers will not consider trailers or other promotional videos for selection purposes. The three categories include features (more than 60 minutes), shorts and Sacramento Produced projects.

Lorenzo Director Stunned by Annecy Victory

LORENZO director Mike Gabriel was stunned at winning The Grand Prix at Annecy. How could we have won? he told AWN. There were 50 world class shorts we were competing against, shorts that were all imaginative, and it was completely intimidating. We felt like we were welcomed into the club.

UGO Airs E3 Inspired Shorts

UGO Networks (www.ugo.com), a leading online magazine for guys, is teaming with a group of Hollywood film producers to create three shorts set at the E3 Expo. The short films -- DREAM GIRL, CREATION and A.D.D. MAN SAVES E3 will take a humorous, irreverent look at the world of videogames and the Electronic Entertainment Expo. Emmy-winning producers Ian Sander and Kim Moses; Dark Light Pictures; Greg McClatchy of Motor Ent.; FilmworksFX and director Stuart Acher participated in the creation of the shorts.

Sundance Awards Prizes To Two Toons

The Sundance Film Festival concluded on Jan. 25, 2004 and handed out prizes to two animated shorts. HARVIE KRUMPET, directed by Adam Elliot, took home an honorable mention from the Shorts Jury. The 2004 Sundance Online Film Festival Viewers Awards for Animation went to BATHTIME IN CLERKENWELL, directed by Alex Budovsky. BATHTIME appears on the newly-released, animated shorts DVD collection, AVOID EYE CONTACT.

Raider Prods. and Purple Globe Communications (www.purpleglobe.com) have partnered to bring NORTH AMERICA'S BEST INDEPENDENT ANIMATED SHORTS (NABIAS), the first feature film to be screened on Internet in full screen streaming DVD quality using Matrix Stream technology.

Cartoon Network Commissions to Create 20 Original Shorts from Aspiring Animators

Revisiting its roots in original animation that produced such mega-hits as THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, DEXTER'S LABORATORY and COURAGE THE COWARDLY DOG, Cartoon Network today announced an all-new Cartoon Cartoons Shorts program to commission an initial 20 original shorts covering a wide variety of animation styles and formats, it was announced Sept. 29, 2003 by Jim Samples, evp/gm of Cartoon Network Worldwide.

Oscar Shorts Get Theatrical Run

If you'd like to see all five Oscar-nominated animated shorts on the big screen you now can in select cities thanks to Apollo Cinema, an international shorts distribution company, that has packaged them into a compilaton package that premieres March 14, 2003 in Los Angeles and New York. The animated shorts have been combined with live-action short contenders into a single 91-minute program that will run daily for two weeks at the Laemmle Fairfax 3 in Los Angeles and the Two Boots Pioneer Theater in New York.

Our indie cinema is seeking to expand our program to include shorts before each feature, but we need your contributions! if you have an independently produced short of 10 minutes or less on VHS, DVD, or 35mm, send it in for consideration. Although there is no monetary compensation for this exhibition, it is a great opportunity for free exposure in the Berkshires.

A Message From God - Coming Soon To A Store Near You

Orlando animation production company A&S Animation, Inc., has produced a series of animated bible story shorts called A MESSAGE FROM GOD. Created by Emmy Award winning producers J&B DiFrancesco, the shorts will be included in Raven Moon Entertainment's new video release called GINA D'S KIDS CLUB. Based on the DiFrancescos concept of having two animated kids telling bible stories, Mark Simon of A&S Animation, Inc. developed and produced the three one-minute shorts telling the stories of Moses and the Ten Commandments, David and Goliath, and Adam and Eve.

Lions Gate Home Entertainment has gained the home video rights for the MR. BILL collection of shorts. In addition, CinemaNow.com has obtained the Internet video-on-demand rights.
