Toon Boom Releases USAnimation 5.0

Toon Boom Technologies recently released a new version of its 2D cel animation software, USAnimation, which is used by top animation studios all over the world (Walt Disney TV Animation, Film Roman, Warner Bros., Klasky Csupo, Paramount Pictures, Mercury FilmWorks, Sunwoo, Cuckoo's Nest, Cinar). Iowa State Wants To Air Your Shorts

Iowa State University's student television station is looking for animated

films of any kind under 7 minutes in length, for their animation

exposition. The winner will be broadcast locally in April of 2000 to an

audience of around 40-50,000 homes. In addition, animators that participate

will have their Web sites linked to from the station Web site. Submissions

can be on BetaSP, SVHS or VHS tapes. Since the animations will be broadcast

on TV, all submissions must meet FCC rules that include no nudity, graphic

Rifkin Joins MediaTrip.com's Board

ARNOLD RIFKIN, whose Cheyenne Enterprises, LLC, is currently partnered with

such talent as Bruce Willis, Whoopi Goldberg and Danny Glover, has joined

the Board of Directors of on-line entertainment company MediaTrip.com.

Rifkin was a founding partner in the talent agency, Triad Artists before it

was acquired by the William Morris Agency in 1992. Soon after Rifkin went

RAINBOW STUDIOS, a digital media company, announced DAVID STIPES has joined

Rainbow Studios' management staff. Stipes role will be to direct and

motivate Rainbow's team of award-winning producers, designers and artists

REBECCA POOLE, a veteran Nickelodeon Movies exec, has been appointed to the

Cinematheque Ontario will present Lotte Reiniger's timeless silhouette

animation, THE ADVENTURES OF PRINCE ACHMED (DIE ABENTEUER DES PRINZEN

U.S. theatres this past weekend, but STUART LITTLE, with primary visual

Imax Delivers Simpsons In 3D

Imax has inked a deal with Fox, DreamWorks and Sony Pictures to deliver to

audiences 3D versions of THE SIMPSONS, Princess Bala from ANTZ and several

original animated characters. The Imax feature will be entitled CYBERWORLD

and will hit U.S. theatres in October. Produced by Hugh Murray and Steve

Hoban, the 45-minute pic will feature 3D clips from ANTZ and THE SIMPSONS

interwoven with Phig, the tour guide of this futuristic animation museum.

Fox has leaked the scoop that a central Simpsons character will be killed

off on the February 13 episode of the decade old toon. Rumors have been

circling that the grim reaper will be swinging his scythe at Maude

Disney TV's Pioneer Webster Passes

Michael Webster, who established Walt Disney's television animation

division in 1984, passed away at the age 60 following a long battle with

multiple sclerosis. On Saturday, January 29, 2000, Mr. Webster succumbed to

complications from pneumonia at his home in Port Townsend, Washington,

U.S.A. During his 42 year tenure, Webster created the Walt Disney
