Minneapolis is something like the 4th largest ad agency market with the highest per-capita corporate headquarters and two schools with animation degree programs. It has a thriving creative community in poster art, design, cartoonists, musicians, and theater...but a lousy animation scene.
Let's change that eh?
Any Minnesota animators on here that I don't know want to do some social stuff and raise the profile of animators 'round here?
Oh..you DID reply.
Is the "eh" due to Canadian proximity? ;)
I'm nowhere near Minnesota, but I'm behind your efforts 100%. Even a small community is better than feeling like you're all alone in your pursuits. Hope lots of Minnesota animators come out of the woodwork.
We've got a pretty good list. We need to make an effort for local companies and ad agencies to see that production can be done locally...yep.
Well, I'm originally from Minnesota (and I personally think it's the best state in the Union) but I'm having to go out west to really learn animation. Maybe I'll be back some day, though!
Is there an ASIFA chapter there? That might be a good place to start.
That sounds good.
I'm in Minneapolis.
Minnesota is very tough place not only for the animators but also for the animation studios.
We do okay with commercial work but it'd be nice to get a vibrant non-commercial scene. There are some really good animators who call this place home..and talented MCAD graduates.
