Events: Screenings

A four year old festival in Hollywood, WinFemme is an annual and monthly screening and staged reading series for films and scripts that tell women's stories. (Men creatores are WELCOME!). Films and scripts have advanced our artist's careers, have sold and have garnered much press. $50 is the application fee. The deadlines are monthly. All entrants are eligible for the annual WinFemme Film Festival held in September.

See the work of Tex Avery,William Barbera, Mel Blanc, Bernard B. Brown, Bob Clampett, Shamus Culhane, Arthur Davis, Max and Dave Fleischer, Friz Freleng, Joseph Hanna, Mike Jitlov, Chuck Jones, Walter Lantz, Winsor McCay, Robert McKimson,Otto Mesmer, Grim Natwick, Zach Schwartz, Frank Tashlin, Paul Terry & more. Created in 1985, the Hiroshima Festival celebrates love & peace through the art of animation, basically held biennially, under the endorsement of ASIFA and according to its rules. Hiroshima is consisted of competition programs, special programs, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, etc.P>No category for competition, any animation shorts under 30 minutes and completed after the April of two years prior to the festival year are eligible. For the festival screening, the following formats are acceptable:

Another not-to-be-missed screening is happening in the Los Angeles area. As a companion to the Academy's upcoming art exhibit "Oscars in Animation - 7 Decades of Animation Art," the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Standards Screening Series will present 12 animated short films on Friday, August 16, 2002 at 8:00 pm in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The Academy will screen such Oscar-winning gems as 1939's THE UGLY DUCKLING, MOONBIRD (1959) by John and Faith Hubley, and Chuck Jones' THE DOT AND THE LINE (1965). Also included will be

Fresh from the dedication of the Ray Harryhausen Animation Lab at Expression Center for New Media in Emeryville, California, Ray Harryhausen is preparing for another honor, this time from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. On Monday, June 24, 2002, as part of the Academy of Art College's ongoing "Legends of Film Graphics" series, Ray Harryhausen will receive an honorary doctoral degree from the Academy of Art College.

This is technically an old-time radio convention, but the guest speakers are of great interest to anyone who is interested in classic cartoon voice actors. DALLAS McKENNON, GINNY TYLER, and NANCY WIBLE will be on hand to discuss their long careers. The convention will be held at the Lime Tree Inn in Mena, Arkansas, on June 14-15, 2002. Activities begin at 5 pm on Friday and continue all day on Saturday. There is no registration fee or any other charge for attending; you simply show up. The "Cegep du Vieux Montreal" is proud to announce that the first finishing students from its three-year classical animation program will hold their very first year-end screening on Thursday June 13th 2002.The event will feature the work of 21 talented young artists, showing their films ranging from 45 seconds to 2 1/2 minutes.The screening will take place at the "Maison Theatre", 245 Ontario Est, Montreal.Guests are expected at 7:30 PM.Please confirm your intention to attend by e-mail.
