What you think about...

Iam writing mi disertation in animation and i must to complete part of my primary research so there is a couple of question that, i would like, if you got a spare minutes, you to answer...need some feedback of animators in general.

It is sometimes difficult to contact people through the companies for a proper interviews so i guess that this can work..Thanks for your help.

Question1
Do you Think that animation and its aesthetics will be affected by the production enhancements afforded by CG?

yes/ no

why and how?

Question 2
what will be the role of animators in the future?

Question 3
Keyframe or motion capture or combination of both? what do you prefer or use the most.

Thanks for your time!

Do you Think that animation and its aesthetics will be affected by the production enhancements afforded by CG?
CG made things much cheaper and now more people can afford to make animated movies. It only means that more people will be making movies, and the new big problem is distribution. How to make your movie stand out of the crowd.
CG could also bring new aesthetics and capabilities, but it seems like we're moving backwards. Softwares are getting more and more limitating while trying to simulate old effects and artists are getting far and far from the "real thing". And animators are getting more and more limited by the technology. We should be its MASTERS, not SLAVES!

what will be the role of animators in the future?
I can't say what will be, but I think it should be the role of creating a more universal communication that can actually bring people together in the entire world, more like music and less like theatre and literature. I also think that animators should stop trying to pretend they're making a poorer version of live action and be more proud of the possibilities of their medium. Make more art and less money. Movies are made for people, not for "audiences".

Keyframe or motion capture or combination of both? what do you prefer or use the most?
Like everything in life, the more mixing the better... each one should have the right and possibility to experiment everything and decide how to work in each time, depending on the idea, instead of finding out the " correct" way of doing things. There's no rule or law, we're all learning and creating all the time.

I think 3D will continue to explore it's possiblities when it comes to look; borrowing for 2D and creating some of it's own aesthetics along the way. And hopefully 2D will do the same, the look of 2D has become stale in the last decade or so (at least when it comes to the major studios) maybe it'll create new looks (and better stories) that will entice the audience back into the theater. It started to do so with the bringing in 3D elements but I don't think it's every been taking as far a it could.

Question 2
what will be the role of animators in the future?
I don't think the role will ever change from storyteller and artist. Technology may change how it's physically being done but the animator will adapt and continue on bringing life to characters.

Question 3
Keyframe or motion capture or combination of both? what do you prefer or use the most.
Motion capture has it's place like any other technique but good ol' keyframing will always be my preferred method.

I'm not in the animation industry yet (trying) but I'll do my best.

Question1
Do you Think that animation and its aesthetics will be affected by the production enhancements afforded by CG?

Probably not.

why and how?

Animation will always be controlled by the animators, not the software. We make the computer do our work or the pencil. As long as we have ideas and different styles, so will our works.

Question 2
what will be the role of animators in the future?

Similar to what it is now, I would guess.

Question 3
Keyframe or motion capture or combination of both? what do you prefer or use the most.

I prefer keyframe but if you are going to use motion capture, I think it is best to use a combination of both instead of mo-cap alone.

2-D animation will never die. The invention of photography did not kill painting. Why would animation be any different?

My Answers.

Hello.

Here are my answers:

1. No. It seems that too folks assign creativity to software or hardware packages-like they are a "cure all" for thir production needs. The ultimate decision of aesthetics remains with the artist. If the artist is an artist and not a "puppeteer" they will have the abilitiy to create enhancements whether it is 2D or 3D. One more "D" does not make one more creative.

2. REAL animators will act through their characters to bring them to life. That includes using all the principles employed now including exaggeration, drag action, etc. (something a lot of 3D folks leave out.).

3. Everyone knows what I am going to say...down with motion crapture lets remain animators doing key frames or key poses or animating straight ahead when necessary.

Thanks.
