3d question

I'd ask this at cgtalk, but I get the feeling it's more for advanced questions, and this one's kinda amateurish. I'm using files as textures in my maya environment, and they render fine, but random textures show up as white in the work area. Is this just a problem with memory or processing power? Is there a way to work around this? because I need to be able to see the textures as I work, and I won't have access to a better computer for 1.5 weeks

when I am at school the same problems occurs on computers with older video cards, using Maya. Are you modeling in one window or in four, and what are your visual settings for those windows? Mine show up as white when my computer is being overloaded trying to compensate for to many refreshes for textures on four windows. Maybe only use the (7 hotkey) views textures panel once in a while, see if that helps.

Don't do nothing because you can't do everything.

it sounds like the graphics card in your machine isn't quite 100% OpenGL compatible. Many consumer boards can experience the same thing. As long as it renders OK, it's all good.

i have had some of my textures turn white.

It usually happens to me when the directory to the texture is incorrect or has been modified. (usually when messing with PSD networks)

It fixes when i just quit and restart.

monkeygirl> I had two in wireframe, two in smooth shaded. But I turned another one to wireframe and it seems to be working ok, as long as I open the file with only that one smooth shaded window open.

Thanks guys
