Previously slated to swoop into theaters in 2025… then in 2026… Matt Reeves’ film will now premiere October 1, 2027; an untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Tom Cruise flick will take the vacated October 2, 2026 slot.
The wait continues. The Batman Part II, previously slated to swoop into theaters in 2025 and then in 2026, will now premiere on October 1, 2027, according to Variety. An untitled Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Tom Cruise flick will take the vacated October 2, 2026 slot. No reason was given for the push.
The sequel was first announced at CinemaCon in April 2022, while the title and original release date were revealed by DC Studios’ Peter Safran and James Gunn in late January 2023.
Matt Reeves returns to direct Part II, with Pattinson reprising his role as the caped crusader. Jeffrey Wright also returns as James Gordon alongside Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. No plot details are currently known.
Gunn previously described Part II as a DC Elseworlds project, separate from the official DCU continuity but with the full support of DC Studios. Also part of the Reeves’ Batman Elseworlds franchise is the critically acclaimed Max series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell.
