disguise Announces Volinga.ai Integration

RenderStream’s AI technology takes phone captured 2D content and generates 3D environments for real-time use in virtual production.

disguise announced its new SaaS platform Volinga.ai integration allowing quick generation of 3D environments using 2D content captured with cell phones. Images uploaded to Volinga's AI Platform can be used in the RenderStream bi-directional protocol and translated into immersive virtual scenes that can run in real-time with little need for optimization.

This seamless workflow uses NeRFs, a transformative AI technology that enables the capture and representation of 3D scenes from 2D images; it is a user-friendly pipeline for 3D content generation and overcomes common bottlenecks in VFX and virtual production workflows, such as 3D asset creation and complex photogrammetry.

The Volinga Suite end-to-end pipeline is also the only solution that allows efficient, fast creation of 3D environments with the full parallax effect, essential for dynamic perspectives and depth in a 3D environment. Because of this, DPs can move the camera freely on a virtual production set without restrictions.

Volinga Co-Founder Fernando Rivas-Manzaneque said, “With this new integration, disguise and Volinga users can easily create and navigate 3D environments for virtual production, dramatically reducing the time and effort required in creating 3D environments. This signifies a massive step-change in Virtual Production capabilities.”

According to disguise, 700+ beta users have provided feedback and noted significant time and budget reductions when creating photorealistic environments. For example, they can capture a scene on an overcast day and load the NeRF into content engines like Unreal Engine.

“By providing native support for 3D generative AI in disguise, we will ease the process of capturing, manipulating, and visualizing 3D environments, bringing techniques previously exclusive to high-budget productions to mid and lower-budget productions,” added disguise solutions director Peter Kirkup. “This will drive the adoption of digital twin creation and democratize virtual production for all.”
