Filmation Co-Founder Lou Scheimer Dies at 84

Filmation co-founder Lou Scheimer dies at the age of 84, two days away from what would have been his 85th birthday.

Lou Scheimer, co-founder of animation studio Filmation, passed away yesterday, October 17, according to the Pittsburgh ToonSeum’s Facebook page. The award-winning animation producer was two days away from what would have been his 85th birthday.

While no other news regarding the sad passing is available at this point, Gen X animation watchers will remember Scheimer as the creator of animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the first show based upon a toy action figure.

He also voiced many of the characters along with voices for other shows, most notably the voice of "Dumb Donald" on the long-running Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.

Scheimer wrote about his life in his 2012 autobiography, Lou Scheimer: Creating the Filmation Generation. Below is his final public appearance, in 2012, at San Diego Comic-Con:
