OIAF’s Official Animated Series Competition Selections are…. Revealing

Almost anything goes in the mostly adult-themed line-up of animated shows competing at the upcoming Ottawa International Animation Festival, running September 21-25.

Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) has announced this year’s animated series competition selections. OIAF runs September 21-25 in Ottawa.

The selections are:

  • Big Mouth "A Very Big Mouth Christmas" (Henrique Jardim, United States)
  • Educational TV (Pablo Marcovecchio, Marco Caltieri, Uruguay)
  • Magical Caresses - Masturbation: "A Short History of a Great Taboo" (Lori Malépart-Traversy, Canada)
  • My Year of Dicks: "Sex Talk" (Sara Gunnarsdóttir, United States, Iceland)
  • Safe Mode: "Lana Among the Lilies" (Justin Tomchuk, Canada)
  • SWOP - "Dentist" (Job, Joris & Marieke, Netherlands)
  • The Boys Presents: Diabolical - "John and Sun-Hee" (Steve Ahn, United States)
  • The Great List of Everything: "Bathtub" (Francis Papillon, Canada)

“These are not your standard Saturday morning cartoons,” said OIAF artistic director Chris Robinson. “Swearing, nudity, sex, and anything explicit is what makes the Animated Series Competition so compelling.”

Indicative of a booming market, the Festival received a record number of submissions with selections representing adult favorites such as Netflix’s popular animated series, Big Mouth (previous OIAF selection in 2019 and 2020). A stroll through the titles suggests the adult content and humor represented in this year’s line-up; already lauded shows include, My Year of Dicks: “Sex Talk,” a story about a young girl determined to lose her virginity, last month won an Annecy Cristal for TV Production.

OIAF 2022 runs from September 21- 25 at venues throughout the Ottawa downtown core. Tickets and more information are available on the event website.
