The Thirty-Second Film Contest For AustraliaDeadline: November 12, 2008
Twentieth Century Fox's upcoming romantic adventure AUSTRALIA and Metacafe launched "The Thirty-Second Film Contest" on October 24. The contest challenges aspiring film editors to use materials from the film as well as their own creative "spin" -- including visual effects, music, and voice-over -- to put together a :30 spot for the film.
The launch of "The Thirty-Second Film Contest" coincides with the release of a production video featuring director Baz Luhrmann discussing the editing process on AUSTRALIA. Luhrmann, the Oscar-nominated director of MOULIN ROUGE! and WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO + JULIET, collaborated with editors Dody Dorn (KINGDOM OF HEAVEN, MEMENTO) and Michael McCusker (3:10 TO YUMA, WALK THE LINE) to turn 2.5 million feet of raw footage into the finished film, which opens in theaters everywhere November 26.
Fox and Bazmark Production will select the winning submission, which will be featured on the film's DVD release. The winner will also receive a trip to Australia courtesy of Qantas Airways and Tourism Australia, and a trip to New York to meet Luhrmann at a special event and attend a private screening of AUSTRALIA.
The production video is part of a series of ten videos designed to educate and inspire high school and college filmmakers, taking them behind the scenes of AUSTRALIA, starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, and inside the creative process of Luhrmann and his production team. The previously released videos focus on AUSTRALIA's costume design, on-set photography, cinematography, production design and more -- and can be viewed at http://australiamovie.com/behindthescenes.
