‘Venom’ Director Ruben Fleischer teases a Spider-Man / Venom crossover, coming soon-ish.
Sticks and stones may break my bones but black goo and webs excite me. All signs point to an epic Venom v. Spider-Man showdown in the near-ish future. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted the crossover in September, and Venom director Ruben Fleischer has all but confirmed it, saying the pairing is, "where it's all going to lead." While Sony’s 2018 Venom (Tom Hardy) has his own separate origin story, comic book Venom was created from Spider-Man. It’s time they were reunited: goo is thicker than water.
As part of the Sony/Marvel lover’s spat and reconciliation in September, certain deals were made to create projects that would benefit both brands. This could mean that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) may appear outside the MCU in Sony’s Spidey-verse. Many believe a “Maximum Carnage” story line will begin in Venom 2, with Woody Harrelson’s Carnage serving as the main antagonist. This would lead to an epic showdown between Venom, Carnage, and Spider-Man in Venom 3. Other, less likely rumors indicate that “Maximum Carnage” will take place in the MCU. Either way, we’re happy that our friendly neighborhood Spidey is stuck on us for a little longer.
