Waters Pops For Penguins Instead of Baumbach

FREAKY FRIDAY director Mark Waters is in talks to helm 20th Century Fox's adaptation of MR. POPPER'S PENGUINS, reports VARIETY. Previously, Noah Baumbach was circling the project with Ben Stiller in the acting lead, but that fell apart. Now Jim Carrey, Jack Black and Owen Wilson are rumored to be the top contenders for the lead role.

John Davis is the producer. Sean Anders and John Morris penned the screenplay.

The story follows house painter Mr. Popper, who ends up the adopted father of 12 penguins. When they threaten to put him in the poor house, he develops a stage act starring his feathered friends.
