X-Men, Little Mermaid Make Fourth Quarter DVD History

X-MEN: THE LAST STAND (Fox Home Ent.) and THE LITTLE MERMAID DVDs (Buena Vista Home Ent.) kick-started the fourth quarter on Oct. 3 with combined sales exceeding $80 million for an opening day fourth quarter record, reported the industry trades.

Industry sources estimated first-day sales of X-MEN at 2.6 million units and LITTLE MERMAID at 1.6 million units (including sales to rental dealers).

X-MEN is the biggest October DVD debut ever, and LITTLE MERMAID is the biggest animated DVD debut for October.

The Little Mermaid Resurfaces at Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre

Disney's Oscar-winning animated feature, THE LITTLE MERMAID, makes its digital debut during a special limited engagement from Sept. 7-24 at Hollywood's legendary El Capitan Theatre.

The engagement, which celebrates the upcoming Oct. 3 release of the special edition DVD from Walt Disney Home Ent., will spotlight an all-new digital restoration of the film with enhanced picture and sound. Plus, every show throughout the entire run will offer a live appearance by Ariel.

Charmed Producer Swims for Mermaid Series

CHARMED producer Brad Kern has written and will oversee an untitled pilot for The WB! centering around a mermaid, according to SCI FI WIRE.

"The mermaid is being played by a fresh new face that we've plucked out of Sydney, Australia," Kern said in an interview. "We were casting literally around the world looking for our mermaid. We looked in London and New York and New Zealand, Hollywood, Florida, Melbourne and Sydney."
