What do I have to do to become a writer for a cartoon/anime?

I always loved cartoons and most likely will always love them. But I can't draw and don't want to animate or make storyboards. So how can I become a writer for an animated series if you never hear anything about them and how they get their jobs?

Do you guys have any suggestions on where to study or what to do?
