Cartoons on the Bay Honors Stop-Motion Producer Ian Mackinnon

The creative director and co-founder of Mackinnon & Saunders Studio will accept the Studio of the Year Award 2023 at the International Festival of Animation, Transmedia and Meta-Arts, taking place in Pescara May 31-June 4.

On behalf of the McKinnon & Saunders Studio, stop-motion producer Ian Mackinnon will receive the Studio of the Year Award 2023 at the upcoming Cartoons on the Bay - International Festival of Animation, Transmedia and Meta-Arts 2023. Mackinnon will also serve on the Festival's International Jury. The festival takes place in Pescara, Italy, from May 31-June 4, 2023.

Mackinnon is one of the creative directors and co-founders of Mackinnon & Saunders, a studio specializing in character development for animation and producers of stop-motion and 2D digital animation. Over its 30+ years of operation, the studio has brought to life some of the best-known characters in the world of movies, TV series, commercials, and short films. Work includes the puppets for the 2023 Oscar and Golden Globe-winning animated film Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (Netflix) and the puppets for Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox, Tim Burton's Mars Attacks! and Frankenweenie, and Mike Johnson's and Burton's Corpse Bride.

The Mackinnon & Saunders studio is actively involved in animation for the UK market with the BBC on shows like Postman Pat; Wanda and the Alien; Twirlywoos; Moon & Me; and Raa Raa the Noisy Lion. More recently, the studio worked on Netflix’s 90-minute stop-motion anthology The House and the series The Sound Collector, produced by EagleVsBat.

Cartoons on the Bay will also host the British film director and producer Peter Lord and the Israeli film director and producer Ari Folman, who will both receive the Pulcinella Career Award.
