Czechia-based post house contributes around 90 shots to the action thriller starring Russell Crowe and brothers Liam and Luke Hemsworth, working on all explosions, gunfire and aerial shots.
Czechia post-production studio PFX has shared a VFX breakdown reel and images from their work bringing director William Eubank’s vision to life in the thriller, Land of Bad, starring Russell Crowe and brothers Liam and Luke Hemsworth. PFX worked together with Australian studio Cutting Edge on the film, a high-action spectacle about the ambush of a special force’s military team and their escape.
“It was a great experience to work with William and the Cutting Edge crew,” said PFX producer Tomáš Srovnal. “We very much appreciated the enormous amount of prep work that went into every VFX shot on set. This made our job so much efficient.”
PFX worked on approximately 90 shots over three months with a team of 20 artists. VFX supervisor and Visual Effects Society (VES) member Jindřich Červenka, who has worked on various award-winning local and international projects, led the team.
“It was a lot of fun,” said Červenka. “We truly enjoyed working on all the explosions, gunfire, and aerial shots. The most challenging assignment was a full CGI drone sequence, which required a lot of research and preparation to ensure that it would be as realistic as possible.”

The team proved that international collaboration is possible, but Srovnal noted there were various challenges.
“One of the challenges we faced was to coordinate the project across three continents,” explained Srovnal. “Prague and Bratislava, where we operate, is right in the middle between the U.S. and Australia, so we had to adjust our work hours accordingly. But the smooth collaboration with the rest of the team kept us motivated and looking forward to every meeting that propelled the film forward.”
As one of Central Europe’s largest post-production studios, PFX has worked on numerous films and television series for streaming platforms HBO, Netflix, Amazon, and Apple TV. The studio also creates and produces 3D animated films, such as the highly anticipated film The Last Whale Singer. PFX currently operates in Czechia and Slovakia and is planning to expand to other countries.
