Moho Animation Software Releases Moho 14.3 Mantis Shrimp

The update, which is free for all Moho 14 users, includes Color Drift and Opacity options for brushes, allowing artists to mix colors and create natural looking artwork while maintaining the flexibility of vectors.

Lost Marble’s Moho Animation Software has released the Moho 14.3 Mantis Shrimp update, which is free for all Moho 14 owners. The new version includes Color Drift and Opacity options for brushes.

“The new Color Drift feature allows users to set Hue, Saturation and Value parameters for a brush,” said Víctor Paredes, co-founder of Moho. “The stroke starts with an original color and drifts to a different one, easily mimicking hand painted materials like gouache or acrylic blending. The more pressure applied to the pen, the more the color will drift. The new Opacity option gives pen pressure control over line transparency, making it feel like realistic charcoal sketching or watercolor painting.”

These improvements allow artists to mix colors and create natural looking artwork in ways only seen in traditional media and bitmap software. Both Color Drift and Opacity values are saved into each vector point, making them easy to modify individually or several points at a time with the Magnet Mode.

“When we think about brushes, it is not only about having many settings, but also about flexibility, performance, creation and modification of brushes and optimization for movement,” added Paredes.

All the values can be modified and animated with plasticity and performance. Being able to modify these brushstrokes in real time can improve the animation workflow and saves valuable time.

“Our goal is to create rigged animation that can live together with traditional animation,” continued Paredes. “That’s why our focus is not only on creating the best tools for rigging but also providing drawing tools and brushes that can look as natural as possible.”

Moho 14.3 Mantis Shrimp also includes other features and fixes, such as new options for the Paint Bucket tool; Lasso mode for selecting shapes; better masking preview and render; improved antialiasing for brushes; improved language support; performance improvements; and more.
