The Walt Disney Company utilized AI tools to transform archival videos of the iconic founder into a realistic, life-sized hologram that speaks to guests.
The 100th Anniversary of The Walt Disney Company is rapidly approaching, and in honor of the occasion, Disney100: The Exhibition (a 15,0000-square foot museum chock full of memorabilia) officially opened its world tour in Philadelphia, allowing guests to explore 10 extensive galleries built using immersive technology. On display are selections from the Walt Disney Archives vault of treasures, including the “Crown Jewels:” over 250 priceless pieces of company history, including artwork, costumes, props, and more. The most immersive experience, however, is a hologram of Walt Disney himself. Witness a first look at Walt Disney greeting guests below:

To create the mind-blowingly realistic resurrection, the Walt Disney Company utilized AI tools to transform archival videos of the iconic founder into a life-sized hologram that appears and speaks to guests at the entrance of the exhibition.
“As we prepare to kick off Disney 100 Years of Wonder, we are incredibly excited to bring this fantastic exhibition to life,” said Becky Cline, director, Walt Disney Archives in a statement. “We can’t wait for guests to experience their favorite Disney stories, characters, and attractions in new and immersive ways as we celebrate all the wonderful worlds of Disney.”
President and CEO of The Franklin Institute Larry Dubinski added, “The Franklin Institute is thrilled to host Disney100: The Exhibition, the first major event to mark the global celebration of Disney’s 100 years, allowing fans throughout the Philadelphia region and beyond the very first opportunity to see these crown jewels come to life in beautifully crafted galleries reflecting the creative empire synonymous with imaginative storytelling, innovation, discovery, and wonder.”
Disney100: The Exhibition is now open at The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia; it will then tour across the globe until at least 2028. The international exhibit will kick off on April 18, 2023, in Munich, Germany, with more cities announced for both domestic and international tours soon.
