Golden Globes Like Cars, Happy Feet & Monster House

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assoc. announced its nominees this morning (Dec. 14, 2006), adding for the first time a Best Animated Film category. The three animated nominees were CARS, HAPPY FEET and MONSTER HOUSE.

Other animated related nominations came in the Best Original Song -- Motion Picture category for "The Song Of The Heart," music and lyrics by Prince Rogers Nelson, from HAPPY FEET.

Invisible effects play parts in Best Picture, Drama nominees BABEL and THE DEPARTED. The other nods in this category went to BOBBY, LITTLE CHILDREN and THE QUEEN. As for Best Picture, Comedy, DREAMGIRLS rides its awards buzz into a nomination along with BORAT, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and THANK YOU FOR SMOKING.

Effects also play a big role in the Foreign Language category. Nominees include APOCALYPTO, LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA, THE LIVES OF OTHERS, PAN'S LABYRINTH and VOLVER.

On the television side, Best Series, Drama nods also feature effects. 24, HEROES and LOST join BIG LOVE and GREY'S ANATOMY in this category. Nominations for Best Miniseries or Movie went to BLEAK HOUSE, BROKEN TRAIL, ELIZABETH I, MRS. HARRIS and PRIME SUSPECT: THE FINAL ACT.
