The ‘Wednesday’ actress may just be Tim Burton’s next muse now that rumors are swirling she may play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in the upcoming spooky sequel.
Are we sensing a pattern? Jenna Ortega may debut as Tim Burton’s next muse (never dethroning Johnny Depp, of course) now that rumors are swirling the Wednesday actress is in talks to star in another of the spooky director’s projects.
According to THR, multiple sources claim Ortega is in talks to play Lydia Deetz’s daughter in Beetlejuice 2. In addition to Burton’s return as director, Michael Keton will reprise his role as the eponymous ghost with the most. The project has been in the works for years, and has gone through multiple iterations and writers, including Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. Mike Vukadinovich (Kidding) has penned the most recent script.
Keaton, Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, Jeffrey Jones, and Catherine O’Hara star in the original film, a cult-classic tale of Adam and Barbara, a deceased couple who are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hired a malicious spirit to drive them out.
The odds of Ortega joining the project seem high, as she has stated she used to have “consistent dreams” of Beetlejuice in her youth, and raved to THR of her experience on Wednesday, stating, “It’s been quite an insane experience. I’ve been lucky enough to get the opportunity to work with an iconic director who just so happens to be one of the sweetest directors I’ve worked with, and also the most detail-oriented.”
Burton will executive produce while Grahame-Smith and Katzenburg produce alongside David Geffen for The Geffen Company.
