VARIETY reports that early work has begun on MAGIC KINGDOM, a feature that would bring together a cast of Disney icons, such as Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, into one movie. The project is being described as similar to NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM in plot and Marvel's THE AVENGERS in studio strategy.
Ronald Moore (TV's BATTLESTAR GALACTICA) scripted the first draft from his original idea. Strike Ent.'s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman are producing and developing the concept with a new writer. Moore's story took place in Disneyland, but Disney wants to expand on the idea.
The studio is eyeing the project as a way to re-introduce or re-vamp characters and properties that could then be spun-off into their own films.
