The comedian will play sorceress Jennifer Kale in the upcoming Marvel and Disney+ miniseries, while the ‘White Lotus’ actress will play Rio Vidal, an original main villain character created for the show.
While plot details for the upcoming Marvel and Disney+ miniseries Agatha: Coven of Chaos are still swathed in a mysterious haze, the witchy cast is finally filling out. According to Deadline, comedian Sasheer Zamata has joined the series as the sorceress Jennifer Kale alongside Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness, Patti LuPone as Lilia Calderu, Joe Locke as Billy Kaplan, and Miles Gutierrez-Riley as Billy’s boyfriend Hulkling, Emma Caulfield Ford as Dottie, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzzia, Okwui Okpokwasili, and more.
"I definitely did do as much [comic book] research as I could, but the way we formed this character is very different from what I think people expect," Zamata explained of her character.
Mashable also reports that Aubrey Plaza will portray Rio Vidal, an original character. Previously, Plaza’s role had only been described as the main villain.
Coven of Chaos is executive produced by Kevin Feige, Brad Winderbaum, and Jac Schaeffer. The mystical VFX are in the hands of Digital Domain, with Sandro Blattner acting as the on-set VFX superior.
A release date for the wicked series has not yet been announced.
