The 10th edition of the International Project Competition at Annecy 2006 is now open. Around 120 short film or TV production projects were in competition in 2005 for 12 cash prizes. This mine of independent creation has been evolving and intensifying its support to young authors, since 1997. The competition is open to any animated short film or TV production project (TV special or series) irrespective of the genre and techniques used.

DIC Ent. (DIC) reports a raft of deals with an extensive roster of key international broadcasters and pay TV channels concluded from the close of MIPCOM 2005 for animated programming, led by TROLLZ, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE, SABRINA: THE ANIMATED SERIES, TOTALLY SONIC and more.
In November 2005, the "Rencontres internationales Paris/Berlin" (Paris/Berlin international Meetings) will present in Paris an international programming focusing on film, video and multimedia, gathering works of artists and directors acknowledged on the international scene along with young artists and under distributed directors. The festival aims at presenting those works to a broad audience, at decompartmentalizing the different circles of creation, at making their audiences communicate as well as creating new exchanges between artists, directors and professionals.

Bill Plympton 's new short film, THE FAN AND THE FLOWER, is now appearing in film festivals around the world. The film is about an ill-fated and unconsummated romance between an electric ceiling fan and a flower, with a magical fairytale ending, by the prize-winning indie auteur, Plympton. Based on a story by Dan O'Shannon, THE FAN AND THE FLOWER is the narrated by Paul Giamatti (SIDEWAYS, AMERICAN SPLENDOR).
Now showing at Anima Mundi in Brazil, the film was recently showcased at the Comic-Con International Film Festival in San Diego.

Cortoons is an international animated short films festival, which will take place at Cinema Nuovo Olimpia. The event has four categories: from 1 to 4 minutes, from 4 to 20, Italian and International, Flash award and VFX award. JONA/TOMBERRY, the animated short directed by Rosto of the Netherlands, was awarded the Cannes Film Festivals Grand Prix Canal+ du Meilleur Court Métrage. The Award Ceremony of the Semaine International de la Critique / International Critics Week took place on May 20.
