Spielberg Sweetens Consulting Deal With Universal Theme Parks

Steven Spielberg, a longtime creative consultant for Universal Studios' theme parks, has inked an exclusive agreement that extends his deal and keeps him from developing new attractions for Disney, where DreamWorks is now based, Variety reports.

Disney Cuts 11 Percent of Theme Park Staff, Mostly Managers

The Walt Disney Company announced Friday it will cut 1,900 jobs at its Anaheim, Calif. and Orlando, Fla.-based theme parks, per VARIETY.

Some were direct layoffs and some were positions that will not be filled, affecting mostly managers and salaried employees, not workers in the parks. Among the cuts were 50 executives who accepted a voluntary buyout offered to about 600 people.

The HD World Premiere of South Park's Imaginationland On DirectTV

Parks Awarded Gordon E. Sawyer Oscar

Peter D. Parks, one of the industry's foremost microphotographers, has been voted the Gordon E. Sawyer Award by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Oscar statuette will be presented at the Scientific and Technical Awards Dinner on Feb. 14, 2004 at The Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel in Pasadena.
