lightboxes vs,disk's

Hi everyone i have a quary on animation disk's and light tables.I want to start of by saying that i belive i have this light box. http://www.lightfootltd.com/product_info.php/cPath/25_39/products_id/79

ok now thats that's out of the way i want to ask is there a diffrence between lightboxes and other lightboxes?is there a diffrence bettween disk's and other disk's?Is there a diffrence between any lightbale and any disk?

I know there is obvioulsly diffrenses but i want to knoqw if there is any light table or disk that makes a huge diffrence?

to be hones i cant see how a disk is any better than my light box?Is it?and is my light box inferior to others?

im not going to be buying a second light box any time soon but its a question iv been wanting to know.

well usually there are those movable discs and some are made of glass or metal but usually acrylic. i bought one for $100 and then had one made and the thing cost like $30(for the whole table with disk)

the name says it, i guess

starter kit.

back when i was an animator, we used lightboxes and discs.
that's why i thought your title was a bit funny.

the one you have was used only by cel painters-- the disc is fixed
because they don't need to draw, just paint.

animators need to draw, so they use a movable disc on top of a
lightbox. now the wrist can't do all strokes easily, especially those
that curve inward. so they rotate the disc so as to have a
more natural stroking position.

this is especially true for clean-up artists.

for animators, the natural slope of the disc is much greater than
the cel painters. cel painters' lightbox is sloped lightly to avoid dripping
the paint down.

animators' lightbox is sloped greater than 15 degrees so they
can use their elbows for broad strokes. too much angle though might
easily tire your arm due to blood circulation.

just my past talking here.

but hey, if it works, it works.

Don't worry.  All shall be well.

thanks alot that is interesting so a disk is definetly better for animators than a light box.I always wondered that thanks for answering my question.Im still fine with my light box but a few years down the road maybe ill get a disk. :D
