Hello all,
I'm so glad I found this forum. I'm a student at The Art Institute of Atlanta in the Media Arts and Animation program. The program gives a basic understanding of both Traditional and CG Animating tools and techniques. Sadly, my Traditional studies are nearly complete (which I've fallen madly in love with) and I'm starting my CG work.
I wanted to post the works I've done so far and get some feedback from you all here. I've already seen some very keen stuff around here. Thanks in advance for any suggestions and comments.
All of my work is put together in Monkey Jam where it is turned into a .avi then placed into Flash for viewing:

I hope that isn't to much to look at. Enjoy!
very nice
i really liked the mexican walking and the monkey.
You seem to be a pretty good animator i cant wait to see more from you. :D
Yo, I am at the AI in Seattle, same program.
you have some good aspects in all of those. Nice work.
The gundo walk is nice, but just before he stops, i kind of expect his right arm to fling forward a bit sooner. It seems to be bending back longer than it should. The motion and flow is good though.
I like the ape one. but i kind of expected a larger stretch after his yawn in the beginning. After his initial tight stretch kinda thing, a more wide above the head then resting down. Or at least some anticipation before dropping down.
just what i was thinking. cool stuff.

Yeah, the Ape one was definatly a rush job for an Art History Project (long story). I was trying to keep the entire thing under 5 seconds. Which, in the scope of my story didn't give me much time to play around like I should have.
Not sure what you mean about the GundoWalk. Of course its nearly 3am here and my brain has slowed down, heh.

basically, to me, the right arm is held in the back position a tad longer than it feels it should.

Just saw what you mean. His hand seems to stay put while his elbow and shoulder keep moving. If you focus on his shoulder you can't see it (which is what I was doing), but when I focused on his hand I caught it.
Good eye. I still haven't finished what I want to do with this but I'll be sure to fix that.
Thanks!

Great work Ontaious, and welcome to the Forums.
You have some really nice and solid animation going on. Some of the timing could be better, but who's couldn't use some work. The Ape animation is esspecially in need of some help. I know you said you tried to keep it under five seconds, but it just feels very rushed, like there are too many poses going on. It would benifit from either taking out some poses, or by adding some thinking time inbetween the main poses. I would also be nice to see him fully stretch out when he's yawning and stuff. I feels like he is really trying to stay in frame and because of this his motions don't feel natural. All the actions you have him doing are looking nice.
For that mexican walk, his right arm is broken on his last step. Breaking of joints is fine, but that is a little too much and held for too long. Thats the only thing that I saw that really jumped out at me.
Nice animation, and I look forward to seeing more of you work.
Aloha,
the Ape
