Hello, I am a current college student who needs to interveiw someone on a certain topic for one of my classes. My topic I have chosen is 3D computer animation. If anyone has any knowledge or training in this field I would greatly appreciate your assistance. I am just going to post a few questions that I hope will be answered.
1) What special effects company do you think would be the best to work for? And If you work for that company can you give me reasons why its a good company?
2) With CGI being such a techical job, do you need to be ecspecially Mathmatically savvy?
3) What do you think companies look for more talent wise; computer artistry or classic styles of art such as painting, drawing, ect?
4) With a upcoming deadline how many hours in a week does the team work on the project?
5) Would it be better to work for a small company or a large one?
6) With the amazing CGI we have today do you think that it can get any better?
7) Do you think that there has become a CGI overload? With nearly every movie coming out it seems to be CGI created, do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? I would love to hear your opinion.
I thank anyone and everyone who will read this and or respond to it. You have been a great deal of help to me and I greatly appriciate it. :)
You got poked fun at, you didn't like it.
Sue me.
Might want to learn to lighten up a bit, especially if you plan to get into the biz.

I dont want to pay for a resigtration just to post some questions, can someone please answer these questions they need to be from some real people not just a random information posting from someone else :(
Alright, I shall attempt to answer some of your questions, but I will add first that ghDude is right: most of the questions are asked VERY often, on CGTalk and other sites, so some brief searching would give you most of your answers. But, nonetheless, here I go:
1) What special effects company do you think would be the best to work for? And If you work for that company can you give me reasons why its a good company?
I'm not going to answer the first part, because every company has happy employees and unhappy employees. You can also check the surveys at http://www.vfxhell.com/ to see a variety of opinions. However, some of the things that I believe MAKE a good FX company include a collaborative environment, creative encouragement, proper compensation, realistic expectations, an environment that supports artists in their desire to further their own art and learning, and leadership that is experienced in both FX and business, just to name a few.
2) With CGI being such a techical job, do you need to be ecspecially Mathmatically savvy?
In order to do what? Some positions require basic arithmetic, while others usually have at least one Ph.D. in a technical field (computer science, physics, mathematics, etc.).
3) What do you think companies look for more talent wise; computer artistry or classic styles of art such as painting, drawing, ect?
Personally (I'll use that word a lot in order to emphasize that these are my own opinions), I believe companies should first look for an artistic sensibility, then after that, a combination of being able to learn quickly, being able to work well in a group, and work well under pressure.
4) With a upcoming deadline how many hours in a week does the team work on the project?
It varies widely, but I've seen anywhere from keeping the standard 40-50 hours/week (if all previous deadlines were hit correctly) to 100 hours/week per person (if absolutely nothing is going right, and the client keeps changing EVERYTHING).
5) Would it be better to work for a small company or a large one?
It depends. Oftentimes, a smaller company can allow for a person to try out multiple positions and job functions, thereby expanding one's learning and experience, but a larger company usually can guarantee steadier employment, with a smaller risk of having gap time or being let go.
6) With the amazing CGI we have today do you think that it can get any better?
I hope so. While images are definitely amazing, some things still aren't. There's a long way to go stylistically and realistically.
7) Do you think that there has become a CGI overload? With nearly every movie coming out it seems to be CGI created, do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? I would love to hear your opinion.
I think that's an extreme exaggeration. Yes, next year there are quite a few CG feature films being released, but the other 800+ films are not CG. I do believe, however, that quality of CG films will suffer because investors and companies believe that just because something is CG, it will make money. Once that theory is disspelled, I hope that people will realize that quality is needed.
:D Thank you for answering my questions, I know I could find theses answers anywhere on the net, but it was importent that i had a real person answer my specific questions, so thank you very much!
Ahem, most of the answers elsewhere were generated from a "real" person anyway.
Last time I checked, this thing in front of us called a computer does very little thinking by itself.
