Hi
My name is Anne Imomoh. I am in Lagos, Nigeria.
I want to be an animator and I have been looking for how to go for the training. I have no art background and I would like to specialise in 3D animation. Please can anyone recommend a school in the UK, US or in Africa that offer intensive training in 3D animation for a year or two? I would really like advise on this as I would not want my dream to die.
Thanks
Anne
Hi Anne,
There's a thread at the top of this board that talks about animation schools - have a look at that. If you have a more specific question after that, then please post again.
If you have no art background, you may want to look into a program that's longer than a year or two. Those types of programs usually focus on software rather than technique, and that won't be terribly helpful in your case. A longer (4-year) program will give you some of the art training you'll need to be competitive in this field.
If your main priority is not to let your dream of animating die, then you should get the training that gives you the greatest chance of success. Four years seems like a long time now, but it's relatively short compared to the potential length of your career IF you're trained appropriately.
HI, If you're looking for a school that will give you that intensive training that you are looking for, give AAU (Academy Of Art University) a ring, they have online programmes as well and if you really need any more convincing....Animated Ape attended the University. Yeah, he's an artist on the hit show Fosters Home For Imaginnary Friends, if that doesn't convince you, then you I guess you don't want a school that prepares you for one thing and one thing only...getting the job.
For more options check the sticky, at the very top of the board.

Hi
Please I want to find out from you guys (especially Animated Ape) if I can go to Learn Academy (Touchvision) in South Africa as it was on the list of animation schools. It seemed to me that they teach software (both 3Ds max and Maya) over a period of 2 years and I want to find out if it is a good enough school to start out my career in 3D animation.
