Hi all, I've been away for too long (Busy with school and all) Now I got a question for you guys. How does the animation sequence begin? What I mean is that What do you start first? Then from there, what must you do all the way until you finish?
I also want to know how you all transfer your files from Maya into another software (I heard it works with Adobe After Effects, mind explaining?) Please help answer my question, Thanks.
Simple version.
Idea > write story> art design> storyboard> record dialouge> animation> clean-up> ink and paint/lighting rendering> compsiting> final editing> score> watch.
I'm sure I've got some switched around and most are done overlapping one another, but thats it in its more simpler forms.

I got the Maya question:
Once your scene is modeled, rigged, animated, lit, and rendered, you import the rendered frames into AE for compositing/sound synch/effects work, and render out the final result.
For production pieces, you always render individual frames out of Maya, not a QT or AVI. Frequently, you'll render sections of your shots separately and then combine them in AE. For example, if your background elements aren't moving at all, then one frame of them behind the animation works just as well as rendering the whole environment for every frame, and saves render time too.
Erm, for the first question, I was asking more about Maya animation sequence.
Simplified
Step 1, What do I do? Lighting? Modeling? or what?
Then Step 2 and on until final step for transfer.
Ic DSB How long does it take to make about a REALLY Simple 5 min video (Just one model and some movement so and so, Like an MC or spokesperson)
*Story (pencil and paper)
*Storyboards (pencil and paper)
*Character design (pencil and paper)
*Voice recording
*Modeling
*Blend shapes (mouths, blinks, brows, etc)
*Texturing
*Rigging
*Animation
*Rendering
*Post-production
Five minutes is a lot of footage to produce, even if it's really simple. There is no standard answer; a lot depends on how much time you put in on it.
If you're really good and fast you could probably crank out 30 to 45 seconds of animation a week in a 40 hour work week. So at least 10 weeks to animate a five minute short. Just animation and not including modeling, lighting, rendering and that other stuff.

So this'll all be what I need eh...
*Character design (pencil and paper)
*Voice recording
*Modeling
*Blend shapes (mouths, blinks, brows, etc)
*Texturing
*Rigging
*Animation
*Rendering
*Post-production
.Ouch, That'll take quite a while... Even with white backgrounds? I don't even know much about modeling, crap i'm in trouble. Better start now!
