Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee

Begins: April 7, 2002

The Kansas City Filmmakers Jubilee announces its call for entries forJubilee 2002 - US/International Short Film Division

Anyone of any age is welcome to enter any of the following subdivisions. Allentries must be 30 minutes or under. Work may originate in any film, video ordigital medium unless otherwise noted. You may enter a single work inmultiple divisions with separate entry forms and screener tapes (VHS NTSC).

- Open: Narrative, experimental, animation, documentary genres.

West Coast Student Film Festival

Begins: April 5, 2002

The West Coast Student Film Festival invites all college, university and graduate student filmmakers around the globe to submit original work into the competition. There is no entry fee. Categories for entry are: Animation, Fiction and Non Fiction. This year's theme is "Overcoming Obstacles." Entries may be shot on any format but must be submitted in 1/2 inch VHS format. The festival will be featuring several winning films from each category, as well as top films in areas of cinematography, editing (sound/visuals), directing, acting, screenplay and soundtrack.

35th Annual WorldFest-Houston International Film/Video Festival

Begins: April 5, 2002

The 35th Annual WorldFest is one of the oldest film & video festivals in America and the world. WorldFest gave first honors to Spielberg, Lucas, David Lynch, Randall Kleiser, Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott, The Coen Brothers, Ang Lee, Michael Cimino and hundreds of others. WorldFest offers more than $25,000 in cash and equipment awards, including the $2500 Kodak Raw Stock Award. There are 6 production seminars presented by top industry talents, such as cinematographers Vilmos Szigmund and Laszlo Kovacs,special effects director Richard Edlund, and director Robert Wise.

Reg Hartt Presents A Tribute To Chuck Jones

Durango Film Festival

Begins: March 1, 2002

The Durango Film Festival, after its successful 2001 premiere, is in the works for 2002. This juried 10-day festival will present independent feature films, documentaries, animated films, shorts, experimental, and new media works. In addition, the festival will offer educational salons, VIP panels, filmmaker discussions and host a variety of parties and receptions. On Saturday, March 9, 2002, the winners of the Golden Quakie Awards will be announced. Award-winning films will receive encore screenings on Sunday to close the festival.

Tropfest

Begins: February 24, 2002

Tropfest aims to support emerging filmmakers and gives them the opportunity to showcase their work to a broad audience in a festive environment. Tropfest also enourages production - films entered must include the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) to show that the film was specifically made for Tropfest.Sixteen films in total are chosen for screening at Tropfest and prizes are announced in the lead up to the event.

York Independent Film Festival

Bugs Bunny has been spanked. Every thing that might possibly offend anyone has been cut from the great films of Hollywood's Golden Age of Animation.

In 1979 Reg Hartt invited animation artist BOB CLAMPETT to Toronto for an in-depth look at his career. The next year FRIZ FRELENG, BERNARD B. BROWN and GRIM NATWICK were given the same treatment. Legendary animation artist SHAMUS CULHANE followed. TEX AVERY would not travel. He talked with Reg by phone. Reg met with and learned from CHUCK JONES.These dialogues have been published.

Telluride IndieFest

Begins: December 6, 2001

Telluride IndieFest is an international event that showcases the best independent films and screenplays in the world. All genres are acceptable and multiple entries are allowed. Screenplays should be no longer than 120 pages. Film and video entries are previewed on standard VHS NTSC video (no PAL format). Selected artists may screen their entries during the festival in either Beta SP, Digital Betacam SP or standard VHS. Entry fees vary according to material length and date of entry.

Telluride IndieFest 2001

Telluride IndieFest is one of the premiere independent film festivals in the United States. The festival highlights outstanding work in independent filmmaking and screenwriting. DIRECTV-LEVEL13.NET film festival

Begins: December 1, 2001

Digital television service provider DIRECTV, Inc. and Film Roman's multi-channel animation network LEVEL13.NET anounced their first annual animated film festival. The DIRECTV-LEVEL13.NET film festival will serve as a platform for working artists, undiscovered animators and student filmmakers, showcasing the best in independently produced animation from around the world. Festival winners will have their submissions showcased on DIRECTV as part of a DIRECTV FREEVIEW event series scheduled to air in December 2001.

18th EuropaCinema & TV - Viareggio Film Festival

Begins: November 27, 2001

The Europa Cinema & TV - Viareggio Film Festival started in 1984 as a live-action, feature film festival. Since its 15th edition, EuropaCinema & TV has programmed animation to encourage its interaction with live-action cinema. The festival features a selection of 12 European animated shorts; each of them is programmed immediately before a feature film in competition. All works submitted must have their Italian premiere at the festival.

Banja in the World Championship

Begins: November 23, 2001

The Europe-Japan Media Exchange (MEX2001) has announced the BANJA-IN-THE-WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP and is accepting submissions for animated shorts (no longer than 5 minutes) featuring characters from BANJA, the free Internet-based game. Submitted works will be posted on the MEX2001 Website, and the champion and second place finalist will win the opportunity to attend the celebration ceremony to be held in Shibuya, Japan on November 23, 2001.
