I recently read on SCAD's website that the school was ranked in the top three animation programs in North America by 3D World Magazine. Was wondering if anyone knew what the other top ranked ones were according to 3D World?
I believe they actually say in the physical copy that it can't be considered, with the provided reason being that it's online. That's secondhand info, but it got talked about a lot at the time because people felt slighted. It's also made implicit that it cannot be ranked competitively since it teaches a concentration of a single topic and doesn't spread out through all of liberal arts or even all of art/fine art, as well as being largely untested at the time of ranking in terms of placement performance.
They might feel it to be apples to oranges. Just like I don't compare U.S. schools to Gobelins because the screening to get in the latter is so high to begin with, whereas people get into some schools here without knowing how to write or draw properly.
For my money to do it over again...well, going away to school is a tremendous growth experience. Aside from that, on pure education alone (120k vs. 14 or 15k) I can't say enough about the learning merits of the program. Even the people that don't have the time or motivation to make full use of it benefit from it immensely.
What were the other schools that were listed in the Top 10?
Was it the "Academy of Art" or "Animation Mentor?"
Academy of Art (just checked it again). Animation Mentor isn't even listed in the alphabetical list after the rankings.

Just be aware of the rankings. Worked at SCAD for 5 years- their facility is top notch.

I'm fairly certain this is a ranking of the 3D programs at these schools, since CalArts didn't even make the top 10 in the 3D World rankings.
