Allegorithmic Launches Inaugural ‘Substance Days’ Event

Two days of masterclasses, an evening keynote, and a day of free conference sessions to be held at Gnomon School of Visual Effects, Games and Animation.

VENICE, CA -- Allegorithmic has announced Substance Days, a new event for the Substance community. During the three-day event (July 21-23), artists can take part in Masterclasses offered by some of the gaming industry’s top talent, attend the Allegorithmic keynote presentation, and participate in free conference sessions.

“Substance Days is about learning from and connecting with the best artists in the industry,” said Dr. Sébastien Deguy, founder and CEO of Allegorithmic. “These three days of discovery provide a unique opportunity for the community to gather, share knowledge, and master Substance skills in a warm, friendly environment. We can’t wait to see you there.”

Masterclasses

Led by artists from Naughty Dog, Treyarch, Sony Santa Monica and Certain Affinity, each half-day class has been capped at 15 attendees, offering a unique and intimate experience for the students. There are currently 12 options to choose from, and classes run from July 21-22.

  • 101 – Substance Painter Tips and Tricks (Peter Zoppi – Treyarch)
  • Hands On: Baking, Texturing and Rendering (Christophe Desse – Naughty Dog)
  • Character Design with Substance Painter (Michael Pavlovitch – Certain Affinity)
  • Setting Up a Substance Pipeline for Your Studio (Steven Rich – Blizzard)
  • Uncharted 4 Texturing Post-Mortem (Rogelio Olguin – Naughty Dog)

Keynote and Substance Art Expo Opening

Allegorithmic CEO, Sebastien Deguy will deliver an hour-long talk on July 22 on the past, present and future of Allegorithmic and Substance. The presentation, which will be livestreamed, will also announce the winners of the recently launched Road Trip 2116 vehicle design contest.

Following the keynote, Allegorithmic will host the grand opening of the Substance Art Expo in the Gnomon gallery. Guests will be able to enjoy food, drink and live music until late in the evening.

Free Conference Day

Saturday, July 23 kicks off a free day of conference presentations covering diverse topics including the latest versions of Substance Designer and Substance Painter, tips and tricks presented by industry leaders, character texturing for film, a recent material design project for Hyundai, and more.

Registration and Pricing

The Friday keynote, gallery opening, and Saturday sessions are free and open to all. Space is limited, and early registration is advised. Masterclasses can be purchased in packs of one to four and include full admission to the conferences and keynote.
