Framestore CFC has welcomed back Andy Lomas to the newly expanded post of head of CG, which will encompass features, commercials and longform TV.
Lomas returns at a significant time for Framestore CFC, with the recent announcement of the company's move into feature animation production (THE TALE OF DESPEREAUX) and the need to optimize CG work.
"During my career, I've worked in CGI on television commercials, TV projects, film VFX and animated features, Lomas said. Coming back to Framestore CFC now makes total sense, offering as it does a unique opportunity to bring all that experience together."
With an educational background that includes an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge, as well as two further MSc's, Lomas has been working with computer animation since the early 90s. After an initial period of freelance work, Lomas joined Framestore CFC in 1994 as a senior animator, becoming head of 3D Animation in 1998. His work for the company included supervising the CGI on numerous projects, including the Emmy award-winning effects for THE ODYSSEY, ALICE IN WONDERLAND and the Emmy nominated JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. In addition, he acted as a troubleshooter, solving CGI production problems and leading research and development work on projects such as WALKING WITH DINOSAURS, THE BALLAD OF BIG AL and DINOTOPIA.
From 2001-2006 he worked on the west coast on various projects, including MATRIX: REVOLUTIONS. Most recently, he was head of Character Effects on OVER THE HEDGE at DreamWorks Animation.
Said William Sargent, joint ceo of Framestore CFC, "I am very pleased indeed to be able to reverse the usual west coast brain drain and welcome Andy back to Framestore CFC. His experience in all aspects of CG is unparalleled, and his innovative and thoughtful approach to CG will be of enormous benefit to the company. We are going to be pushing Framestore CFC in all sorts of new directions in the near future, and having Andy along to help with this is great news for us."
