Cake to Develop 'Fruit Ninja' Series

Fruit Ninja, the second most downloaded app of all time, is being turned into an animated series by The People’s Republic of Animation, with entertainment specialist CAKE coming on board to develop the new show.

Fruit Ninja, the second-most downloaded app of all time, is being turned into an animated series by The People’s Republic of Animation (PRA), with CAKE coming on board to develop this exciting 52 x 11 show.

Following PRA’s acquisition this year by Halfbrick Studios, the original creator and game developer of Fruit Ninja, they have been working on the development of narrative content adapted from Halfbrick’s game brands. The first of these developments, Fruit Ninja, will be targeted at 6 - 11 year olds.

Nominated as one of the top four apps at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards 2013, Fruit Ninja has over 500 million downloads to date and the game still has around 70 million monthly active users making it a prime candidate for an app to screen transfer.

Fruit Ninja has millions of fans and followers around the world, getting the opportunity to help develop linear content to extend their Fruit Ninja experience is a unique challenge and one we are proud to have been chosen for,” said Tom van Waveren, CEO & Creative Director of CAKE. “PRA have been central to visualizing Fruit Ninja until now and we look forward to working with them to take this property to new places.”

“Developing a truly great kids series, whether based on a hit game like Fruit Ninja or not, is no mean feat,” commented Sam White, CEO, PRA. “For this reason, we chose to work with CAKE because they bring expertise, relationships and an excellent track record to the project. CAKE are a quality team and we are thrilled to be working with them to take the joy of Fruit Ninja to an even wider audience for years to come.”
