CBS All Access’ ‘Tooning Out the News’ Launching April 7

Production resuming remotely on animated variety news series from Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht; segments to stream Tuesday – Friday followed by full episode each week.

CBS All Access, CBS’ VOD and live streaming service, has just announced that production will resume remotely on its new animated variety news series, Tooning Out the News, with the series now launching on Tuesday, April 7 in the U.S. and Canada.

The show will feature a cast of animated characters, led by anchor James Smartwood, mocking the news of the day and interviewing real-world guests, newsmakers and analysts in daily five-to-seven-minute segments streaming evenings Tuesday-Friday, followed by a full weekly episode. The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and R.J. Fried and Tim Luecke from Showtime’s Our Cartoon President.

Confirmed guests include Dan Abrams, Alan Dershowitz, Donny Deutsch, Thomas Friedman, Nicholas Kristof, Rep. Barbara Lee, Olivia Nuzzi, Rep. Donna Shalala and Rep. Eric Swalwell.
