Chris Noellert joins Carbon VFX as Creative Director/Lead Flame Artist and VFX Supervisor.
New York-based visual effects and design studio Carbon welcomes Chris Noellert as Creative Director/Lead Flame Artist to the newly opened Los Angeles office, where they have just completed a multi-spot package for the recently launched Windows 8 campaign for Microsoft with Crispin, Porter + Bogusky.
Noellert, known as a pioneer in the Flame and finishing world, is a diverse visual effects artist with experience in both the US and European markets. He joins Carbon LA from Motion Theory/Mirada, where he led projects such as the; Target summer campaign directed by Grady Hall; Wrigley 5 Gum with John Favreau; and most recently HP Red Black with Matthew Cullen. When Noellert was at Public he headed the launch campaign for Lincoln with Team Detroit directed by Lance Acord, and the Nike Men and Women’s Throwdown for Jake Scott and W+K. “Given the depth of his experience and knowledge of our industry, we feel fortunate to have Chris leading the creative efforts of our Los Angeles office,” notes Carbon EP/Partner Frank Devlin.
Previously, Noellert spent 12 years in Sweden helping to open and establish The Chimney Pot brand in Stockholm, Warsaw and Norway before opening his own studio, Syndicate Ent, in 2000. At Syndicate he worked with the likes of Adam Berg, Johan Renck, and Stylewar. Wanting to pursue emerging technology and the artistry of digital intermediate, Noellert later joined Nordisk Film, becoming the youngest technical director in the facility’s history. Working at multiple locations throughout Scandinavia, he was responsible for the design and execution of the facilities’ DI grading suites, and accompanying pipeline and backend infrastructure.
Noellert joins Carbon to help create a new gold standard for the face of modern post-production. With the belief that the disciplines of finisher, designer, visual effects artist, and colorist are converging, Noellert will strive to see that Carbon moves to the forefront of that unification. “Much like the Scandinavian furniture pieces that adorn our flame suites, Chris is characterized by a sensibility of minimalism and functionality,” says Carbon EP Matt Thunell, with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
In addition to the Microsoft Windows 8 spots, recent Carbon work includes BMW for KBS+P, Mountain Dew via Denver agency Motive, the new multi-spot Windows 8 Campaign for Microsoft with CP+B; Google Chrome (BBH/NY), and the award-winning Lady Gaga and “It Gets Better” spots for Google. The newly launched LA office is currently working on a multi-spot package for Ford with Team Detroit.
