DreamWorks Animation Teaming With ‘Korra’ Animation Studio for New Series

Studio signs a deal to co-produce a series of new shows with South Korea's Studio Mir.

DreamWorks Animation has signed a deal to co-produce a series of new shows with South Korea's Studio Mir, according to a report by The Hollywood Reporter.

Studio Mir is known in the U.S. for its Legend of Korra, which began airing its third season on Nickelodeon in June.

Marking the largest international joint venture of its kind for South Korea, Studio Mir will co-develop and co-produce up to four series over the next four years. Each series will be comprised of 78 episodes, and will most likely be produced in 2D. Details of the financing and ultimate distribution were not disclosed.

“The contract with DreamWorks is meaningful because we will be working as equal partners,” Studio Mir founder and executive producer Yoo Jae Myung reportedly said.

The Legend of Korra has received high ratings on Nickelodeon. Its premiere averaged 4.5 million viewers, becoming the network's most-watched animated series in three years.
