Fox Atomic, the new youth-focused division of Fox Filmed Ent., announced its 2006-2007 lineup and theatrical release dates for three of their upcoming films. TURISTAS, a recent acquisition, will jump start the studios slate on Dec. 1, 2006, followed by THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 and 28 WEEKS LATER, both going into production this summer, and being released in theaters in 2007. Also on the production slate for Fox Atomic is a re-imagining of the 1984 classic REVENGE OF THE NERDS and THE COMEBACKS, a sports comedy.
In TURISTAS, after a terrifying bus accident maroons a diverse group of young adventure travelers in a remote Brazilian beach town, they slowly discover that the white sand beaches and lush jungles are concealing a darker, unsettling secret. The film stars Josh Duhamel (NBCs LAS VEGAS) and Melissa George (THE AMITYVILLE HORROR) and is directed by John Stockwell (BLUE CRUSH).
THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2, set for release on March 2, 2007, is the sequel to the 2006 horror re-make, THE HILLS HAVE EYES. It is written by horror legend Wes Craven and Jonathan Craven and will be directed by Martin Weisz. The storyline follows a group of young National Guard trainees who are attacked by mutants during a training mission in the New Mexico desert.
The creative team of Danny Boyle, Alex Garland and Andrew Macdonald are back for the sequel to 28 DAYS LATER, titled 28 WEEKS LATER, set for release on May 11, 2007. Lead by director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, the film picks up six months after the Rage virus has decimated the city of London. The U.S. Army has restored order and is repopulating the quarantined city, when a carrier of the Rage virus enters London and unknowingly re-ignites the spread of the deadly infection, wreaking havoc on the entire population.
Also announced is the beta launch of foxatomic.com, an online experience offering visitors original and user generated content as well as entertainment from other Fox brands. Next up will be THE HILLS HAVE EYES: THE BEGINNING inspired by Wes Cravens film THE HILLS HAVE EYES and the upcoming sequel THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2. Due out fall 2007 is THE NIGHTMARE FACTORY, adapted from the anthology series by Thomas Ligotti, which will be a recurring anthology series of one to three separate horror tales per novel.
