Bil Keane created the single panel comic strip in 1960 and continues to work on the strip with his son Jeff. King Features claims it's syndicated in more paper than any other comic strip in the world.
Hilgenberg spent years trying to contact the Keanes who have always avoided film adaptations. After many unreturned phone calls, Bil answered and Hilgenberg made an impression.
The deal is said to be worth six figures against seven figures.
