LAGUNA BEACH, CA -- Laguna College of Art and Design’s (LCAD) BFA program in Animation announced, The Art of Story, a rare exhibition showcasing storyboard works by Tom Owens, Sean Bishop and Kelly Hobby-Bishop. All three talented story artists have worked in both feature film and television animation and some of their many credits include: How to Train Your Dragon, Sophia the First, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, The Tigger Movie and House of Mouse. The Art of Story is curated by David Kuhn, chair of LCAD’s BFA program in Animation.

Animation story artists are responsible for bringing the intangible to life through drawings. They find visual ways to express emotions and story beats using knowledge of cinematography, acting and editing to help shape what audiences will see on the screen. In a medium where even one unused frame represents a significant expense, storyboards lay the groundwork for every shot in a film before it is animated.

The opening reception with the artists will be held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Thursday, May 5th. The exhibition will run through May 27, 2016.  Exhibit hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at the LCAD Gallery, 374 Ocean Avenue, Laguna Beach, CA 92651. Admission is free.
