New Trailer and Poster Drop for Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Gran Turismo’

The high-octane film, based on the true story of a teenage gamer whose skills ultimately made him a professional racecar driver, screeches into theaters August 11.

From gamer to racer! A trailer and official poster have finally been released for Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions’ feature adaptation of the racing game Gran Turismo.

Based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, the film is the ultimate wish fulfillment tale of a teenage Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills won him a series of Nissan competitions to become an actual professional racecar driver. Gran Turismo stars David Harbour (Stranger Things, Black Widow) as a retired racer turned teacher, Archie Madekwe (See) as a teen who uses his gaming skills to win real races, and Orlando Bloom as a hungry marketing exec.

The high-octane film also stars Djimon Hounsou (A Quiet Place Part II, Shazam!, Blood Diamond); Daniel Puig (Naomi); Josha Stradowski (Amazon’s The Wheel of Time); Darren Barnet (Never Have I Ever); Thomas Kretschman (Indiana Jones 5); and Geri Halliwell-Horner (Spice World). Turismo first launched on PlayStation in 1997, with a successful series of sequels released over the years; it eventually becoming one of the best-selling Sony franchises of all time.

Neill Blomkamp (Elysium, District 9) directs the film from a script penned by Jason Hall (American Sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard). Qizilbash and Carter Swan produce under the PlayStation Productions banner alongside Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti. Game creator Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall executive produce. No word yet on which studios will create the adrenaline-fueled VFX.
