At the BAFTA Awards held Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, Rango won best animated film, beating The Adventures Of Tintin and Arthur Christmas. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 got the top prize for visual effects, and Hugo won two awards for sound and design.
At the BAFTA Awards held Sunday at the Royal Opera House in London, Rango won best animated film, beating The Adventures Of Tintin and Arthur Christmas. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 got the top prize for visual effects, and Hugo won two awards for sound and design.
The Artist took the top honor for the night for best picture. Michel Hazanavicius' nearly silent black and white film led the field with 12 nominations and also picked up awards for best director, actor, screenplay, cinematography, music and costume design.
Meryl Streep won the best actress award for The Iron Lady. Christopher Plummer, 82, became the oldest person to be awarded a BAFTA when he won the best supporting actor award for Beginners. The Help star Octavia Spencer took home the award for supporting actress.
The best British film honor went to Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which also took the award for best adapted screenplay.
Two special honors were also given out during the event. John Hurt was honored with the Outstanding Contribution to British Cinema award, presented to him by Billy Bob Thornton. Scorsese was honored with the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest accolade bestowed upon an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to film.
