DreamWorks has tapped commercial director Noam Murro to direct the sequel to the $129 million surprise hit, THE RING, reported VARIETY. The original films star Naomi Watts has already signed on to reprise her role. The film should start filming in January and is scheduled to hit theaters Nov. 10, 2004.
Murro takes over for Gore Verbinski, who garnered big kudos for his summer blockbuster PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL. Ehren Kruger will again write the screenplay. The plot is top secret, but it will involve the mysterious videotape that kills, seven days later, those who view it. The original film as based on the Japanese hit RINGU.
Through his Biscuit Filmworks production firm, Murro has directed "Got Milk?" commercials as well as spots for Nike, Saturn and Volkswagen. His awards include three Gold Lions at the 2003 Cannes International Advertising Festival, and a nomination from the Directors Guild of America for outstanding direction in commercials.
