Side Effects Software and Sony Pictures Imageworks announced they will co-host the upcoming Los Angeles SIGGRAPH chapter meeting where Imageworks will talk about how Houdini software was used to generate the visual effects in SPIDER-MAN 2. The meeting will take place at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences on Oct. 19, 2004 and will be followed by a full screening of the movie.
Stan Szymanski, svp, digital production; Scott Stokdyk, visual effects supervisor; and Theo Vandernoot, effects animation supervisor will present the studios behind-the-scenes look at a few of the 836 visual effects shots produced for SPIDER-MAN 2, including the creation of the Spider-Man and Doc Ock digital characters and 3D environments. They will also explain how Side Effects Software technology was used to generate some of the films most challenging effects, such as CG water.
