Gnomon Workshop DVD Releases

The Gnomon Workshop released two new titles this week on their Creative Production Pipeline covering character design and matte painting.

Artists Thierry Doizon (aka BARONTiERi) and Sebastien Larroude (aka Rainart) reveal their techniques using a myriad of tools including PhotoShop, Maya, ZBrush and Fusion.

The two new titles delve into the broad expanse of the creative process, from getting creative, researching, working as a team all the way through lighting effects and color correction.

Autodesk Launches 3ds Max Ent. Software, Introduces 3ds Max Design 2009

At its annual World Press Days event, Autodesk announced two new versions of its Autodesk 3ds Max modeling, animation and rendering software -- the leading asset creation tool for game development. The company launched Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 software for entertainment professionals, and debuted 3ds Max Design 2009 software, a tailored 3D application for architects, designers and visualization specialists.

Registration Open for January08 Term at fxphd

fxphd.com is offering 30 courses in the new January08 term (with classes beginning Jan. 14), including 11 new courses.

fxphd continues its production stream with courses on RED camera workflow and digital photography for vfx. They also have a new focus on motion graphics design this term, with three new mograph-centric courses. But they haven't abandoned their vfx/post roots and have new courses in Maya, Flame 2008 and Shake.

Big Deal Struck with Korean Studio

Singapore production house Big Communications will team with South Korean character design shop Sieun Design to bring one of the Seoul firm's brands to TV, reports C21 MEDIA from the Asia TV Forum. RPENG BINI ("Penguin & Bunny") will be launched next April at MipTV, according to Big Communications MD Vincent Lim, who also said the show's two penguin and rabbit characters have already been licensed in Asia.

S4 Studios has completed a new :20 3D-animated and live-action branding promo for Universal HD's XTREME SPORTS ZONE bloc of extreme sports programming. Directed and produced by S4 co-owner Geoffrey Kater for the client team of NBC Universal HD's SVP of Emerging Networks Dan Harrison and Director of On-Air Promotion Sarah Pierce, the initial promotions are focused on new series JEEP'S WORLD OF ADVENTURE SPORTS and the AST DEW TOUR.

When San Diego-based creative firm Karcher Design was tapped by Corporate Sciences Corp. (CSC) to create presentation materials for its annual senior leaders conference in support of a new global initiative, it had a little more than four weeks lead time. To meet the challenge, Karcher Design leveraged wondertouch particleIllusion to create a state-of-the-art package of presentation elements, culminating in a seven-minute motion-graphics-intensive film.

Videogame Design with OGRE 3D

Central Saint Martins Innovation is hosting a two-week workshop titled "Videogame Design with OGRE 3D." This course will explore the open source realtime rendering tool OGRE 3D (Object Oriented Graphics Rendering Engine) and the game engine Sauerbraten. ARTVPS to Open U.S. Branch

ARTVPS, a leading developer of 3D rendering solutions, has expanded its operations in the U.S.

ARTVPS will initially employ a business development manager and a 3D specialist, who will start the operation from a new base in Los Angeles, but plans are already in place to extend operations to New York City and Chicago to address the scale of market and geography involved. ARTVPS is also looking to integrate into the U.S. Channel, forging new partnerships with resellers focused on selling both hardware and software rendering solutions.
