A Scanner Darkly

What does everyone think of this new movie coming out? For anyone not sure what I'm talking about, it's a new film with Keanu Reeves where it was filmed and somehow changed to look like some kind of animation almost. I'm not sure of the technique, but I've seen a few commercials using the same technique (which totally ruins the draw of the movie for me). Does anyone know how they made that?

The technique is kind of digital rotoscoping, which is basicly drawing animation along live video. There are discussions from time to time if this technique can be considered animation. Anyway, the trailer looks interesting, and I'm curious how they will deal with the story.

A Scanner Darkly: animators interviews and links

Hi

sorry if I'm breaking any rules (have mercy on the newbie). I thought it was better to open a new thread rather than post in an old one.

In case you don't know, here's a link to the Animators Site:

http://www.ascannerdarklyartists.com/

and this Winona Ryder site has two interviews

Mike Stovall: Scanner Artist interviewed: http://winona-ryder-news-channel.org/?p=34

Blue Bliss: And Blue Bliss created Donna: http://winona-ryder-news-channel.org/?p=98

You mean instead of posting in this one, which is a few threads down from your new one?

Yeah, this is a much better solution...

Welcome, but please don't do this again.

I think the style looks interesting.
However, I don't like Keanu Reeve's as an actor...
James

Do you think it's taking something away from the movie that there are commercials using the same technique? That feels to me like Miyazaki making a commercial for Toyota or Juicy Juice.

:( ahem, I expected something like that

should have bet money on that  :)

Well c'mon dood; if you expected it, maybe ya shouldn'ta done it... :D

Hey, at least I included a welcome rather than just reamin' ya... ;)

Thanks for the links. Even though I'm not a fan of the technique, it's always good to know more about how it's achieved.
