Do Flash books count? Most deal more with animation basics than with Flash usage.

The Art of Cartooning with Flash
The Flash Animator
Hollywood 2D Digital Animation
Flash 5 Cartooning
Flash 5 Cartoons and Games
Flash Cartoon Animation

and

Cartoon Animation by Preston Blair

Wow... I need to beef up my library...

book question

Hope you don't mind if I post this question here, but do any of you know of a book that is good for teaching hand drawn effects animation? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

KalEl118

best way to learn effects is by observation on real effects.
no book can teach you to do it.
mother nature is very very flexible :)

Kalel, the book Timing For Animation, by: Halas has some good basic traditional effects animation in it. It goes over things like fire, smoke and other stuff. They just started reprinting that book again, so it should be pretty easy to find in a Barne and Noble or Boaders books stores.

Oh, I don't know if this counts as an art book, but I also the the Danger Girl Sketchbook, by Campbell.

Thank you for the suggestions.

How is Gouache for Illustration? I've been looking for a decent gouache book...

It's a pretty decent book for starting out with Gouache. You might also want to check out the Alex Ross book. He paints in Gouache and in his Mythology book he shows step by step how he paints one of his peices. He pretty much uses it like water color.
