Synfig - 2D Vector Animation Program

A friend pointed me to this site http://voria.com/synfig/

Its a new FREE 2D vector animation program.

"Synfig is a powerful, industrial-strength vector-based 2D animation software package, designed from the ground-up for producing feature-film quality animation with fewer people and resources. While there are many other programs currently on the market to aid with the efficient production of 2D animation, we are currently unaware of any other software that can do what our software can."

I think its something to look into. The samples are rather interesting. So far from what I've seen some of the animation seems very mechanical. But that might be a problem with the animator, not the program.

Here is a link for you to download the program: http://www.deepdarc.com/2005/11/01/synfig-developer-preview

Its going to be a small process to install it and the site itself claims it is not user friendly and to read the manual.

Well, we shall see if its any good wont we :)

I downloaded it to see what can be done with it. But if it only outputs to Quicktime or AVI it's not much use to me. Files will be way to big for web work.
