Short and Long form animation

Hi everyone,

I am new to animation, and am wondering what is long and short form animation. Have been seeing these two terms in a lot of articles and reviews but am not sure what is the difference between the two.

Will anyone be able to help??

Welcome to AWN qubb, not sure why no one has answered your question. Not being an expert I'd have to say a short is anything under 30 minutes. But from someone that animates their own stuff anything over 2 minutes is long form for me. But that's not the rule. I am sure now that the post is bumped up someone will give you some accurate definitions.

Thanks phacker! =) I'm not sure why no one has answered too..

Yeah, I was thinking that the long and short forms refer to the duration of the animation, since most awards categorize according to that. However, there seems to be no standard time and some 2 min clips are categorized as long form as well. This kinda adds to the confusion...

I don't compete, but if I did the first thing is to check out the rules. It is my understanding that they are all different so you would have to be careful when shopping your work around.

Did some googling and came up with this reference. It seems to be a complicated topic.

Wow... thanks for all ur help. Have a clearer understanding of what it is now. =)

Really, I think animation is a complicated topic. Theres so many aspects of it that one would consider when looking at a piece of animation. Not forgetting the hardwork that the production team goes through to complete it. :D
